Why I became a pediatric dentist

I am Dr. Urvashi Bhushan, and as my mission in life, I have chosen a discipline that is often overlooked, not only in academia but also in our homes. I find treating children enjoyable and exhilarating. By nature I am patient and friendly, two important qualities for building rapport with children. During my years of training and work, I have seen that most doctors find treating children challenging. Children are not just miniature adults; they have their own unique needs and must be treated with extra empathy, love and encouragement. Most people don’t think of dental visits as pleasant. I want to change that with my dream of a warm, child-centred dental clinic where children don’t just come for treatment, but look forward to happy follow-ups and fun.

A positive, happy dental visit in childhood lays a strong foundation for a lifetime of good oral health. With this belief, I began my journey to becoming a pediatric dentist in 2013, when I started my MDS in Pedodontics and Preventive Dentistry at MAIDS, Delhi. I hope to bring a big smile to the little ones who come to us for dental care.
